Welcome!

PediaSpeech wants to welcome Mirabel to our practice this month! Mirabel is a special little girl who at 11 months of age began having seizures in an area of the brain called the temporal-parietal lobe also termed the “Wernicke’s area”. This part of the brain is critically involved with speech and language as well as sensory and auditory perception and memory.
In August, Mirabel and her parents flew to Miami Children’s Hospital where she underwent a craniotomy and brain surgery to remove a portion of her temporal-parietal lobe to prevent the seizures from continuing to impact her brain. Because of Mirabel’s young age, her neurologist indicated that Mirabel’s “language center” migrated to other language hot spots in her brain giving her a great prognosis with the help of intensive therapy.
That’s where we come in…
On September 11th Mirabel started with Kris and the Carlys to begin her long road to rehabilitation. She comes to our office four days a week. Although it has only been a couple of weeks, her progress is simply remarkable. Carly D., Carly M. and Kris are seeing so much progress daily that they have already had to update her goals. They expect to have to do this every couple of weeks.
Here is an excerpt from the blog Mirabel’s mom has started to document this journey:

“Here are some examples of Mirabel BPS(Before PediaSpeech): poor eye contact, poor core stability, the attention span of a goldfish… the list could continue in this same fashion.

Now here are some examples of APS(After PediaSpeech): She can say “bye bye” now. She can complete a task without melting down, she is less frustrated, which in turn makes Mommy less frustrated. It’s a win-win; a big W.”
